REMINDER TO NEW JERSEY EMPLOYERS
On July 1, 2024, the minimum salary for exempt status under the federal administrative, executive, and professional employee exemptions will increase from $684 per week to $844 per week ($43,888 per year).
Employers in New Jersey must either (1) raise the salaries of employees who will otherwise lose their exempt status or (2) meet federal minimum wage and overtime requirements for those employees.
New York State (NYS) employers should note that NYS increased the minimum salary for exempt status under its administrative and executive employee exemptions as of January 1, 2024. The NYS minimum for those employees is higher than the federal minimum. The exemption for professional employees in NYS follows federal law.
