EEO-1 Component 1 Data Collection Opens for 2024 Filing
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) has officially opened the 2024 EEO-1 Component 1 data collection period. Employers subject to this annual reporting requirement should be aware of the updated filing timelines, procedures, and compliance reminders.
Who Must File
The EEO-1 Component 1 report is mandatory for:
- Private employers with 100 or more employees.
- Federal contractors with 50 or more employees who meet certain federal contracting criteria.
Covered employers are required to report workforce demographic data, including employee counts by job category, race/ethnicity, and sex.
Key Filing Deadlines and Changes for 2024
The 2024 filing window is now open, and all reports must be submitted by Tuesday, June 24, 2025. The EEOC has emphasized that late submissions will not be accepted after this deadline.
This year’s reporting cycle includes a few notable updates:
- The EEOC has shortened the submission period, requiring employers to complete filings by the posted deadline.
- All correspondence and notifications regarding the filing process will now be delivered electronically. The EEOC will no longer send paper mail notifications to filers.
Compliance Reminders from the EEOC
In connection with this year’s data collection, the EEOC issued a public statement reminding employers of their obligations under federal anti-discrimination laws:
- The data collected should not be used as a basis for making employment decisions regarding hiring, promotions, or compensation.
- Title VII prohibits employment actions based on race, sex, or other protected characteristics, and the demographic information reported for EEO-1 compliance must not be used to justify differential treatment.
- Employers remain responsible for ensuring that any internal use of demographic data complies with anti-discrimination laws.
Accessing Filing Instructions and Support
The EEOC has published updated instructions and resource materials for 2024 on its dedicated website at www.eeocdata.org/eeo1. Employers are strongly encouraged to review the 2024 Instruction Booklet to ensure accurate reporting.
For questions or technical support, filers can contact the EEOC’s EEO-1 Component 1 Filer Support Team via the Message Center on the same website.
Next Steps for Employers
Employers should promptly review their workforce data, verify demographic classifications, and ensure timely submission. With the shortened filing window, early preparation is recommended to avoid compliance issues.
